Overview & Reviews
The Sport Trac is an offshoot of the SUV. Basically, Ford has grafted a small cargo bed to the back of a heavily revised Ford Explorer.
- Unique combination of cargo bed and regular SUV, strong V6, optional cargo items improve versatility.

Not Bad - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac
By Big Willie - April 19 - 2:00 amBought my sporttrac in June 2000 and like it more as the time goes by. Looks very sporty and still get accolades from acquaintances concering its style and functionality. I commute 100 miles daily and this vehicle can hang with the best of them. Im certiantly well represented driving my Sporttrac. I did have to put on a set of brake pads and turn the rotors at 55K miles. Visibility is poor when backing. Turning radius is rather large.

Not Sure What To Think - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac
By gelton1 - March 31 - 2:00 amConsumer Reports gave the Sport Trac a big thimbs down, ranking it one of the worst vehicles. I use to think there was something to their annual report, but I have 2nd thoughts now. I bought my Sport Trac in Dec. 00, a co-workers husband bought his 3 months later, a friend bought his that same month, and someone I talk with via work bought one this past summer. With the exception of me getting the Firestones replaced (all the others did not have the Firestones), neither of our vehicles have been returned to a dealership for anything (well the co-workers husband does use the dealership for routine service)

2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac 4WD - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac
By Jake D. - June 9 - 6:43 pmIt will be going on 8 years since we have bought our truck used from a ford dealer. It was a year or two old. Since then it has been a pretty great companion. The only Problems are fuel economy, Braking System and Steering. The brakes have to be replaced or fixed often, the fuel economy is 14mpg, and the steering can get shaky meaning that you have to replace the control arms. Other then that its been a companion. Only a few years ago i found out that t was loaded with options. All i dont have is the moonroof and leather i think. Came with towing package, all exterior option, 6 disc changer, automatic tranny. Good truck. Repairs have never exceed 500 dollars when u DIY

No Problems At All - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac
By Amazo - April 25 - 10:00 amHave owned this since it first came out. Have camped, hauled, went out on the town with it. Always gets stares from people and many questions. 3-5K miles between regular oil changes and normal rotations and mtce. Good brake wear, good tire wear, no squeaks, noises or rattles. 4WD works in snow and mud very well.

Fun To Drive - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac
By schermen - February 20 - 2:03 amDuring summer enjoy rolling rear window down, open sun roof, feels very open. Negative is poor gas mileage. Have over 90,000 miles on it; had to replace A/C & front end parts. When in 2WD in rain or snow it gets pretty scary without weight. 4WD has a ghost, turns on and off by itself. Nice looking truck though. Bought 100,000 mile warranty; havent spent much on repairs because of that.

2001 EXPLORER SPORT TRAC - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac
By PHIL L. - February 11 - 1:20 amI think Ford made a mistake widening the body width after 2001. This car slides into parking spaces with ease, and the performance and ride is better than most. Currently have over 90,000 miles and cant find a better replacement. The utility of the open cargo area is the best thing since sliced bread, and the rear seat fold down is also handy. Long lumber can be transported by sliding down the electric rear window -- a really slick feature.
